Maria Nalbantova (b.1990, Sofia, Bulgaria) is a visual artist who works in the field of contemporary art, experimenting with various media and techniques such as: drawing, collage, found objects, art book, installation and video.
She graduated with a master’s degree (2015) from the National Academy of Arts, Bulgaria, Department of Book and Printed Graphics. She specialized for one semester in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad de Granada, Spain (2012).
Her solo shows include: hybrid-pure, Sariev Gallery, Plovdiv (2020); Weather Forecast, curated by Daniela Radeva, Vaska Emanouilova Gallery (2018).
Selected recent group exhibitions include: InSitu-Institute, Institute of Contemporary Art – Sofia (2020); Where is the sculpture?, curated by Kiril Vasilev, Credo Bonum Gallery, Sofia (2020); BAZA/Young Visual Artist Award, curated by Maria Vasileva, Sofia City Art Gallery (2020); Good Mirrors Are Not Cheap, curated by Kiara Cartucia, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria (2019); The Goods of Time, curated by Anastasya Skvortsova, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria (2019); Interconnection: On Bodies of Water, curated by Veronika Čechová and Tereza Jindrová, Swimming Pool Gallery, Sofia (2019).
Maria Nalbantova is a winner of BAZA/Young Visual Artist Award in 2020.
Her works are part of the collection of Sofia City Art Gallery and private collections.

The Herbarium project explores the work environment in contemporary culture in which ideas are created and exchanged. The focus of Herbarium is to compile a collection of sealed creative energy in boxes (40х40х10, 40x20x10 or 20х40х10) of different generations of artists around the world. The contents of each box are accompanied by a description and a sound file with the artist's voice. The artists, invited by the curator of "Herbarium" could choose two new participants - so the project traces the exchange of creative energy in the artworld. The development of the collection has no time limits, it grows exponentially with each new participant until the final exhibition is announced. The H Talks series (video portraits of the artists) are shot during the preparation of each presentation of the Herbarium collection in the artists work environment and studios. All the information, gathered in the process of developing the collection, will be available to all researchers, curators, gallery owners, students or art lovers who are interested in the less visible mechanisms through which contemporary culture functions.
